Our Purpose

Our Purpose

Part of our guiding principles at Carpet Colour Centre is the belief that we need to leave this world better than we found it. It's for that reason that we are actively involved in community development locally and around the world. The ownership, management, and staff at Carpet Colour Centre support causes that are important to us and that make a difference to those less fortunate than ourselves. We've been blessed and we want to share that blessing.

Red Deer Dream Centre

The Red Deer Dream Centre‘s main focus will be instituting a live-in drug & alcohol, 40 bed recovery program located in Red Deer's downtown core, the Red Deer Dream Centre. The Dream Centre will be transforming the former ‘Lotus’ nightclub on 50th Avenue downtown into a treatment centre where our neighbours with drug and alcohol addiction can receive the support and help they need. At Carpet One, we believe this is a big step forward for the City of Red Deer, which is why we are supporting this project whole-heartedly!

Carpet OneHomes For Heroes

Did you know that there are an estimated 5000 veterans living on the street in Canada? The Homes For Heroes Foundation was developed in response to the growing number of military veterans who are facing crisis as they return to civilian life and find themselves on the path to homelessness. This foundation is planning to build a Veteran's Village of transitional housing in every major city across the country, starting with Calgary and Edmonton, and Carpet One is committed to providing the flooring and tile for every single village.

Carpet OneCarpet OneThe Mustard Seed

The Mustard Seed is dedicated to helping the most vulnerable in our community, and that is something we can get behind. Whether it's the sober shelter, the school lunch program, the dinners, or the Wellness Centre, The Mustard Seed is excellent at compassion. You'll find Carpet One staff volunteering in the kitchen every now and again, and we've helped The Mustard Seed renovate areas of their building to better serve the community. We are proud to support the Mustard Seed.

Turkana Education Centre

Carpet Colour Centre – Carpet One Floor & Home is incredibly proud to announce that the Turkana Education Centre in Lodwar, Kenya is now open and operational! Rick and Andrew attended the grand opening in Lodwar. This school was built with funds raised by Carpet Colour staff, and it offers a chance at a better future for a generation of people who have a very, very hard life. It is the culmination of a two-year effort in a very remote, desolate, forgotten part of planet earth. It marks the latest project that Carpet Colour Centre has initiated in Africa.

Segera Mission

We've partnered with the Segera Mission, on the equator about 40 miles from Mount Kenya, on the Uaso Nyiro River. Segera Clinic provides the only medical care for 600 square miles serving an area of more than 10,000 people. The free clinic has won awards for service to the community. Segera School is educating more than 150 children in preschool, kindergarten and first grade. Construction is proceeding on new classrooms. Segera is also home to many orphaned children. Carpet Colour Centre believes in what Segera is doing and continues to support the mission. So far, we've built a water-tower and provided a satellite up-link to provide internet access to the Mission.

Kiprengwe School

Carpet Colour Centre is proud to partner with Sylvan Lake's HJ Cody High School in building Kiprengwe School. The school is in a hilly, remote part of Kenya that is difficult to reach and has largely been missed by the Kenyan government. If you can get there, however, the view is incredible and the kids are all smiles! This school makes a huge difference for a community of people who have been too far removed from the next closest school.

Daaba Primary School

Daaba Primary School is isolated! One of the most inspiring people we have met on our journeys in Africa is headmaster Charles, who walks 14 kilometers through the dusty, dry wilderness to reach this community of people to teach each week. He believes so much in this purpose that, when we first met him, he was teaching the children under a large tree, unprotected from the elements. With someone like that at the helm, we know that this school will succeed! Carpet Colour Centre and A Better World have come alongside to help construct classrooms, a cafeteria, dorms, and latrines. It is now a thriving school!

A Better World Canada

None of our involvement in humanitarian work overseas would be possible without the amazing efforts of Eric Rajah and A Better World Canada. This is an entirely volunteer-managed charity that is committed to bettering the lives of our brothers and sisters in the developing world by focusing on Education, Health, Water, Agriculture, and Income Generation. In a society that at times can be cynical about relief organizations, A Better World is a breath of fresh air. If you don't know what they do, you really should check them out.

Ronald McDonald House Central Alberta

Central Alberta is a collection of smaller communities spread over a large area. That's why it's so important to have a homebase for out-of-town families to give them somewhere to stay when loved-ones are in need of long-term care at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. Carpet Colour's involvement in the house included the supply and installation of all the flooring and tile. What a worthy cause!

Green Deer Day

One of the many things we love about Red Deer is our beautiful, abundant park system. Our parks are the envy of so many large and mid-sized cities. Every spring, however, they can use a little TLC. That's why Carpet Colour Centre is involved in the annual park clean up through Green Deer. We've even co-ordinated the event with hundreds of other flooring stores accross North American for Green Select Day, when Carpet One Floor & Home store owners and staff clean up parks, waterfronts, and roadsides in their local towns.

Central Alberta Immigrant Women's Association

Central Alberta is a great place to live and work, and we love to see newcomers welcomed with open arms! The Central Alberta Immigrant Women's Association does a wonderful job at this from their new head office downtown Red Deer. CAIWA has even played a role helping some of our employees acclimatize when they first arrived in Canada! Red Deer Carpet One is proud to support this organization that continues to make our community better.

Carpet OneCarpet OneHabitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity have been building affordable homes for Central Albertan families for over 25 years! This organization is inspiring and Red Deer Carpet One is excited to help! We've been donating materials to the Restore for many years - in fact, our Warehouse Manager Albert has built a special crate to take project materials to the Restore on a regular basis! (He really likes that crate!) We'll also be onsite helping out at the Aspen Lakes build in Blackfalds!
